The international contest on Thang Long - Hanoi entitled “Hanoi – Your Destination” has been held annually since 2000 to 2008 with a specific topic for each year. All these topics have helped a large number of international friends to better understand the history and culture of the Thang Long citadel in the past and Hanoi capital nowadays. For four years (2005-2008), the contest has been organized in six languages -English, French, Russian, Chinese, Esperanto and Vietnamese - instead of only Esperanto in the previous years. Each year, the contest attracted thousands of participants from many countries throughout the world. Many good essays reveal their deep love toward the Hanoi Capital, the land of thousand-year civilization, the city for peace, with a lot of famous historical relics and beautiful sites known all over the world, and friendly, hospitable Hanoians.

To promote the recorded achievements and contribute to the 1000th founding anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi, the Organizing Committee of the international contest to discover Thang Long-Hanoi entitled “Hanoi – Your Destination” plans to launch the 2009-2010 online contest with the topic: “Towards the 1000th Founding Anniversary of Thang Long”. It's different from the previous year, for this topic, beside the knowledge of studying about historical monuments and cultural heritages, the Organizing Committee would like to lead the international friends to come back the origin of Thang Long-Hanoi, to understand the foundation and development of Hanoi through the ages, and to learn more about Hanoi's age-old history, a dynamic city toward the international integration. Hanoi, a multi-function capital is the centre of politics, national administration, culture, science, education, economics and international exchange. It’s reasonable for Hanoi to construct and develop in every field.

The Organizing Committee would like to call for participation of international friends all over the world and the community of overseas Vietnamese in order to close Hanoi capital and Hanoians. Your enthusiasm already contributes to the success of the activities in commemoration of the 1000th founding anniversary of Thanh Long - Hanoi.
