Traditional new year festivals of Asian countries celebrated in Hanoi


An exchange programme, co-held by the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations (HAUFO) and the Embassies of India, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand in Vietnam, took place in Hanoi on April 27th to celebrate traditional lunar new year festivals of these Asian countries.

The event was attended by Mrs. Nguyen Lan Huong, Chairwoman of HAUFO, and Mr. Tran Xuan Ha, Deputy Director of Propaganda Department of Hanoi Party Committee. It drew about 200 participants including representatives from the friendship organisations in Vietnam, ambassadors, businesses and students from these countries.


Adressing the ceremony, HAUFO Chairwoman Nguyen Lan Huong gave her warmest welcome and best wishes for a new year of success, prosperity and happiness to all families and international friends. She highly appreciated the love, support and the precious help of international friends for Vietnamese people during the progress of liberation, development and international integration. The Chairwoman expressed her hope that the cultural activities held by the organisation will enhance mutual understanding and solidarity between Vietnam and other countries.

On behalf of international friends, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Prak Nguon Hong expressed his sincere thanks to the HAUFO for having successfully organised this meaningful activity, saying that it helps foster the relationship among regional countries. He also expressed his strong belief that HAUFO will continue  to serve as a bridge connecting international friends and Hanoians, in particular, and Vietnamese people, in general.

At the event, participants took part in various traditional rituals of Asian countries such as the Buddha statues bathing, water splashing, color festival, and enjoyed art performances by Vietnamese artists, embassies’ staff and foreign students.
